SCENE ~ Std. IX-D classroom and foyer

Enter MS. SHALLETTE LOUIS and MR. JOSEPH

Ms. Louis: As I remember, Mr. Joseph, it was upon this fashion ~ 'twas but a fortnight ago when Umarpal Sahni, student to my humble class, had ta'en a pardon from me, on that condition that he would ne'er be late to class again, and as thou sayest, said that he would turn a new leaf. His brother Karanpal he keeps at school, and report speaks goldenly of his punctuality: for my part, he thinks not of my pardon and comes when he wishes. This is it, Mr. Joseph, that grieves me; and my conscience, which I think is within me, begins to mutiny against my pardoning mind. I will no longer endure it, though yet I know no wise remedy how to avoid it.

Mr. Joseph: Please, Ms. Louis, I beseech you, control yourself, for thou art turning scarlet. He is but a young one, and has still a lot to learn.

Ms. Louis: I try, I try, but my conscience, which I think is within me, begins to mutiny…I will no longer endure it, though yet I know no wise remedy…

Exeunt.
