Of course, one cannot have a second helping of porridge, no matter how hungry one gets. It is a bit like cornflakes, which always struck me as a bit bovine. I mean, there is culture and humanity in a glorious puffy omlette, stuffed with onion and tomato and cheese and, if you get lucky, mushroom. Pair that with hot toast that someone butters for you and you have an institution called breakfast. The modern rape of it all is cornflakes. Civilisation has been reduced to a convenience.
