Ask and you shall receive, said Jesus, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened to you. But Sagan reserved particular scorn for prayer. Does God need to be reminded that someone is sick? Or does he know, but he won't do anything about it unless someone else asks him to? If God does exist, how could an event as horrific as the holocaust ever have taken place? Since many prayers go unanswered, is God partial?
